Gitoak Privacy Policy

This privacy policy will help you understand what information we collect and use at Gitoak, and the choices you have associated with that information. When we refer to "GitOak," "we," "our," or "us" in this policy, we are referring to the GitOak browser extension (the "Extension") and the developers of this software (the "Developers").

Effective date: Mar 1, 2025

Information We Collect and How We Use It

Gitoak is designed with privacy as a priority. The Extension does not collect or transmit your personal data to our servers. When using the Extension, GitHub OAuth tokens or personal access tokens might be needed to access repositories. These tokens are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. The Extension uses these tokens to authenticate requests with GitHub. We don't and will never store your GitHub tokens on our servers. You must take necessary safeguards to ensure your GitHub tokens are secure.

When using AI features, queries may be sent to AI service providers through the Vercel AI SDK. These queries are limited to code content and repository structure information needed to provide AI-powered features.

Bookmarks and Settings

The Extension's bookmarking feature and all configuration settings are stored locally in your browser's localStorage. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Third Parties

The Extension interacts with GitHub's API to access repository data. We do not sell or share any information collected via the Extension to third party marketers. When using AI features, code content may be processed by AI service providers, but no personally identifiable information is included in these interactions.

Security

We are committed to ensuring that your personal information is secure. The Extension is designed to minimize data collection and keep all user data local to your browser. However, no information can be absolutely secure, and we can't guarantee the security of any information that is transmitted via the Internet.

Cookies and Online Tracking

The Extension does not use cookies or any tracking mechanisms to monitor your browsing activity. The Extension does not and will never use Google Analytics or any third-party tracking software.

Choice

Some of the uses of your information are necessary for the services we provide through Gitoak. If you don't want your information used in certain ways (such as GitHub API authentication), it may prevent you from using certain features of Gitoak.

Exceptions

We may use and disclose information to the extent reasonably necessary for any one or more of the following purposes: (i) to correct technical problems and malfunctions in Gitoak; (ii) to protect the security and integrity of Gitoak; (iii) to protect our rights and property and the rights and property of others; (iv) to respond to claims that your information violates the rights or interests of third parties; (v) to comply with applicable law; (vi) to respond to judicial process; and (vii) to provide information to law enforcement agencies when required by law.

Updates

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy. For example, we may update this policy to describe how new features may affect our use of your information. We will not apply changes to this policy retroactively to information we have previously collected.
